The Any Yarn, Any Size Knit Hat App

Cover of the Any Yarn, Any Size Knit Hat Book by Sarah Bradberry. In the centre is a brown knitted beanie with stuffed bear ears.

After 22 years, I have finally decided to retire the Any Yarn, Any Size Knit Hat Book and turn it into an online pattern generator.

All you have to do is knit a swatch, add some details on your yarn and needles, and choose one of over 40 styles and 17 sizes. Click the button and you instantly have a pattern ready to knit. You can also generate an optional chart to colour for stranded knitting.

I’ve decided to keep the pattern generator free with advertising, in the hope that as many people as possible can enjoy it, while still be able to maintain the site. I hope you enjoy using it!

New Interactive Pin Loom Pattern App

Grid for designing 4 inch pattern weaves on the Zoom loom, weavette, weave-it etc

In 2009 I designed a blank chart for creating new pattern weaves on a 4 inch loom. Today I finally finished making it into a free interactive website app (or more accurately, I finished it at 2am 😜)

You can use the chart to draw your design, preview what it will look like when woven (including a custom colour selector so you can see what it will look like if you use a different colour on a layer), and create the pattern in text.

I’ve also included optional preset patterns from three vintage booklets that you can use as-is, or edit to create a new design.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions, or would like me to add your original designs as a preset pattern for others to use.

Tiny Plush Flower Embroidery Tutorial

A fuzzy, wool flower that looks like a pompon surrounded by 6 smaller pompoms as petals.

I have a brand new tutorial for you today. A tiny plush flower embroidered using the plush template embroidery technique. Also known as Amish stumpwork, among other things.

This tiny flower is an unusual motif, very quick to stitch, and is great for using up tiny scraps of yarn, and filling in empty spaces in larger designs.

I hope you enjoy it, and if you’d like to see a video showing how to stitch it, let me know in the comments!

A New Plushwork Embroidery Tutorial

Stitching over the template with wool yarn.

I’ve added a new tutorial today, for working plush template embroidery (aka Amish stumpwork, plushwork, German tufted wool embroidery), without any knots.

This tutorial includes a new star shaped template, which will be the first of a large collection of motifs that I will be uploading over time. I hope you enjoy what will be an ongoing series, that will include lots of new information the technique of plush template embroidery as well as many traditional, and unusual template designs.

If you would like me to make a video to go along with this tutorial, let me know in the comments!

Reviewing a New I-cord Machine

A pile of different coloured knit i-cords

I’ve spent the last week happily playing with the new Caydo 4 needle, manual I-cord machine*, and I have to admit, I was impressed even more than I expected.

Check out my full review video below, and if you’d like to buy an i-cord machine, or are curious about any of Caydo’s products, you’ll find them here.

* Links in this post will earn me a small commission as an affiliate. Rest assured, I only promote products that I have tested, and I would be happy to purchase. This machine was given to me by Caydo to review at no cost to me.
