How to Join Teneriffe Lace Motifs and a Little Housekeeping

7 small teneriffe lace motifs joined into a doily with 6motifs sewn around a centre motif.

Today’s new tutorial teaches a simple technique on sewing teneriffe lace motifs together. You can use this technique to sew any sized mat, from a small doily like the one in the photo, all the way up to a full size tablecloth or bed cover.

Housekeeping

After redesigning the website earlier this year (and upgrading the server again), I lost the list of instructions that automatically sent the old links from Ravelry to the correct page. I made a general one that sent everyone to the knitting page, thinking that was sufficient, but unfortunately I just made a large number of visitors think the pattern they were looking for didn’t exist any more. (Yikes).

Because I can’t use Ravelry for more than a few minutes at a time (it still gives me migraines), the awesome Sooper Editors over on Ravelry are currently sorting them all out. It will take a while because there are 600 links to check, but I’m very grateful they were willing to take on the challenge. There’s no way I could have done it.

I hope you’re enjoying the teneriffe lace tutorials. I have many more teneriffe lace, and plush template embroidery (aka Amish stumpwork) tutorials to come, and hundreds more knitted lace edging patterns! Here’s to another 30 years(-ish)!

Lace, Lace, and More Lace, & a Patreon Update

Five narrow, knitted edgings.

First a little housekeeping: Regular visitors may have noticed I have removed mention of my fledgeling Patreon from the site. This is because I very quickly came to the realisation that I cannot make tutorials and downloads on a strict schedule any more. This means the ads on the website will stay (unless I win the lottery, ahem).

BUT!

This is good news for everyone, previous Patreon members included. Firstly, I refunded everyone with a paid membership. This is because I’m still going to supply all of the original tutorials and patterns I was going to use to reward Patreon members, I’m just going to post them here with ads. I’ve also updated my CSS file so all of the ads disapppear when you print a page again, which means all you have to do to save any pattern or tutorial as a nice clean pdf is hit print and choose to save as a pdf, or you can print them on paper.

So now all that’s out of the way, I hope you enjoy the first set of 19th century lace edging patterns I released. The Baby Edging Collection. They are:

Baby Edge

Baby Edging from Weldon’s Practical Knitter

Edging for a Baby’s Body

Baby Lace (1) from 5,000 Gems for the Household and

Baby Lace (2) from Needlecraft Knitted Edgings.

I will also be writing a series of tutorials for making Teneriffe Lace, and Plush Template Embroidery that will be added to over the years to become more than I could have ever published in book form. I will upload the first few tutorials over the coming weeks.

I hope you enjoy these techniques and patterns as much as I do.

We’re Back for Another 30 Years, and with a Patreon!

April 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of Knitting-and.com, and almost 25 years since I bought the domain name so I thought it was time to do a bit of tidying up.

Among other things, I’ve done the following to tidy up the website:

I hope you find everything much easier to find, and have a lot more fun looking around!

We’ve changed a lot over the years, and I hope we have many more to come.

Here’s to the next 30 years!

Contact Form Problems

I realised a couple of days ago that my contact form wasn’t working on mobile, even though it was working fine on desktop.

It should be fixed now but please let me know if you have any problems with it using any of my social media links in the footer.

Printing PDF Downloads and an Apology

Sorry.

A kind visitor to Knitting-and.com let me know recently that I had accidentally created many of my pdf files without letting anyone print them without a password.

My sincere apologies to everyone this has affected (I’m mortified that I made such a simple mistake).

I have fixed them now, so if you find yourself with a file from Knitting-and.com that you would like to print, and it’s asking for a password, please download it again and you should be able to print it. (If you can’t, let me know and I’ll double check). Note: This will only affect files downloaded after October 6th, 2018.

Regular visitors may have also noticed that the website has been offline a few times over the past week. This was caused by a failure on the new server, which I have been assured is now fixed. I hope this hasn’t caused too much inconvenience.
