Hat App – User Guide

How to Use This App

1. Choose Yarn & Needles

Enter the name of your yarn (for reference) and select the needle size you used for your swatch.

2. Knit a Swatch

Knit a stocking stitch swatch at least 6 inches (15cm) square using your chosen yarn and needles. Wash and block the swatch, then lay it flat.

If knitting a swatch for a knit and felt hat, knit the swatch using the regular suggested needle size for that yarn. The larger needle size required to make a felted hat will be provided for you in the pattern.

3. Measure Your Gauge

Count the number of stitches and rows in a 4″ (10cm) section of your swatch. Enter these numbers into the Stitches per 10cm/4″ and Rows per 10cm/4″ boxes. Include quarter and half stitches in your measurements.

4. Select Style & Size

Pick a hat style and select a head circumference size from 8″ (20cm) to 24″ (61cm).

If you prefer a loose fitting hat, choose the size hat that matches the actual head measurement. If you prefer a snug fitting hat choose a hat size 1 – 2 inches (2.5 – 5cm) smaller than your actual head measurement. For babies, choose the actual head measurement or slightly larger. They grow very quickly!

Sizes can vary greatly from person to person, but this list can be used as a general guide.
