Abbreviations
k : Knit.
p : Purl.
sl : Slip 1 stitch. I like to slip 1 purlways with the yarn at the front (i.e. whichever side is facing me).
(k1, p1) in next stitch: Knit and into the next stitch to make 2 stitches from 1.
yo : Yarn over.
No stitch: Placeholder for changing stitch numbers. Always ignore this square in the chart.
Pattern
This one’s a little unconventional. Make sure to read the instructions thoroughly before working, even if you’re knitting from the chart.
Cast on 5sts and knit 1 row
For the first repeat of the pattern, work rows 1 to 8 as written.
From the second repeat onwards, work rows 1 to 8, but at the end of the 7th row pick up and knit the 3rd last cast off stitch of the previous scallop, turn and work the 8th row, casting off 11 stitches, the 1st one being this extra stitch which connects the scallops.
Row 1 (RS): Sl, k2, yo twice, k2. (7 sts)
Row 2: Sl, k1, (k1, p1) twice into the double yarn over made on the previous row, k3. (9 sts)
Rows 3 – 4: Sl, k8.
Row 5: Sl, k2, (yo, k1) x 6. (15 sts)
Rows 6 – 7: Sl, k14.
Row 8: Bind off 10, k4. (5 sts)
Repeat rows 1 to 8 for the desired length.
