THIS jumper looks rather well worn with a navy, grey, or red skirt or even with your two-piece. It’s smart, and yet girlish, because of collar and sleeve treatment. Waistline and sleeves are finished with ribbing.

Pattern
Back
Using smaller needles and w wool cast on 96 sts.
Work in rib of k1, p1 for 3½” / 9cm (working 1st row into back of sts.)
Note: Patterns of this era often used a knitted cast on (putting the needle into each st as if you were going to knit it). It was typical to knit int the back of the stitches on the first row to twist them, and tighten the cast on. If you use a different style of cast on, you don’t need to twist the stitches in the first row.
Change to larger needles and work in st st, increasing 1 st each end of every 8th row until you have 108 sts.
When work measures 12½” / 31.75cm shape armholes by casting off 4 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
K2tog each end of the next 4 rows, then every 2nd row 4 times.
When armholes measure 2½” / 6.5cm, change to nb wool and continue in st st for 1″ / 2.5cm
Change to r wool and work in st st for ½” / 1.25cm, then work as follows:
Next row: K 40 (leave remaining 44 sts. on spare needle).
Next row: Cast on 4 sts. k into back of cast-on sts., p to end.
Continue in st st, keeping the 4 edge stitches in garter st, and when armhole measures 7″ / 17.75cm shape shoulder by casting off 7 sts at armhole edge every 2nd row 4 times.
Join wool at centre-back, and work in st st., making buttonholes as follows: 1st one being ½” / 1.25cm above the opening and 3 more ½” / 1.25cm apart.
Buttonholes: K2, yo twice, k2tog, k to end. Drop the second loop of the yarn over on the following row.
Shape shoulder the same as other side.
Front
Work the same as for back until the nb stripe has been worked, Change to r wool and continue in st st until armholes measure 5″ / 12.5cm
Next row: K 36 sts (leave these on a spare needle), cast off 12 sts., k 36 sts. Continue on last 36 sts and k2tog at neck edge of the next 4 rows, then every 2nd row until decreased to 28 sts.
When armhole measures 7″ / 17.75cm shape shoulder by casting off 7 sts at armhole edge every 2nd row 4 times.
Join wool at neck edge and work other side to correspond.
Sleeves
Using w wool and smaller needles, cast on 80 sts. Work in rib of k1, p1 for 2″ / 5cm (working 1st row into back of sts.).
Change to larger needles.
1st Row: K 18 w, 7 nb, 30 r, 7 nb. 18 w.
2nd Row: P 18 w, 7 nb, 30 r, 7 nb, 18 w.
Repeat last 2 rows, increasing 1 st each end of every 4th row until increased to 88 sts. (keeping increased in white wool).
When sleeve seam measures 5″ / 12.5cm, k2tog each end of every 2nd row until decreased to 68 sts.
Next row: K 19 nb, 30 r, 19 nb.
Next row: P 2 tog., p 17 nb, 30 r, 17 nb, p 2 tog.
Continue to keep 30 centre sts. in r, and sts each end in nb and decrease 1 st each end of every 2nd row until decreased to 60 sts.
Work across all sts. in r, and k2tog each end of every 2nd row until decreased to 28 sts. Cast off.
Collar (Two pieces)
Using larger needles and w wool cast on 42 sts. K into back of sts. P 1 row, purling twice into every 4th st. (52 sts.).
Continue in st st and increase 1 st each end of every 4th row until increased to 60 sts.
Work 4 rows then k2tog each end of every 2nd row until decreased to 44 sts. Cast off loosely.
Make ½” / 1.25cm hem around edge.
To Make Up
Press with a warm iron and damp cloth.
Sew up seams, pleat sleeves around armholes.
Sew on 2 pieces of collar. Sew buttons on back opening. Work 1 row of d. c. (US single crochet) along back opening.
