This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on
Materials
- Clark’s O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Pearl Cotton, size 5, 1 ball each of a light and dark color.
- Steel Crochet Hook US No. 6/1.8mm
- A bone ring.
Pattern
With light color, ch 2.
1st rnd: 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook (do not join sc rnds).
2nd rnd: 2 sc in ead1 sc around.
3rd rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around.
4th rnd: * Sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around.
Continue thus increasing 7 sc evenly on each rnd, until piece measures 4 inches in diameter. Sl st in next st.
Work border as follows:
1st rnd: Ch 3, thread over, insert hook in next sc and pull loop through, (thread over, insert hook in same sc and pull loop through) twice; thread over, skip 1 sc, insert hook in next sc and pull loop through, thread over and pull through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten (a loop cluster). * (Thread over, insert hook where last loop was drawn through and pull loop through) 3 times; thread over, skip 1 sc, insert hook in next sc and complete loop cluster.
Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to top st of 1st ch made.
2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * sc in fastening ch of next cluster, sc between clusters. Repeat from * around, increasing 16 sc evenly apart. Join.
Repeat last 2 rnds until piece measures 6 inches in diameter, ending with a loop-cluster rnd. Fasten off.
Make another piece same as this, using dark color.
PAD – Cut flannel, muslin or any soft material, slightly smaller than crocheted pieces. Place between crochet, tacking to wrong side of one piece.
Place padding between crocheted pieces and over-cast edges together.
Sew on a bone ring.
