Tidies were popular in the Victorian era. They consisted mainly of a large rectangle of knitting, commonly worked in a lace stitch.
Tidies were used in the same manner as doilies, as decorative pieces to protect furniture from day to day scratches.
Whilst doilies were often knit in a circular manner, tidies were knit back and forth
