Talk:For an Under Spencer

I'm having a conflict on this pattern that I could use an opinion on. The sleeve very clearly indicates, after the garter stitch edge, to work in stockingnet stitch ("knit 6 rows plain knitting, seam and knit in twos 20 rows"). I started this and it looks very nice. However, for the back and front it doesn't indicate the same but appear to be entirely knit. I thought perhaps when she says "knit 3 plain rows", "knit 6 rows", and "the next row knit plain" (for the back), she might mean the word knit to mean work and thus work in stockingnet stitch... but, I tried that also, and it ended up with the kifb increases on the wrong side, which doesn't make sense either...

So, the question is this: Is the front and back to be worked in garter stitch (as it would be if I worked the pattern literally), or in stockingnet stitch to match the sleeves (which would look nicer)? Thistlechick 20:55, 16 May 2008 (PDT)

seam and knit in twos 20 rows (the stripes at the beginning and ends will have 3 stitches)

This means to work 20 rows k2, p2 rib. Where it says the stripes at the beginning will have 3 stitches it means that you start with p3, then go on to work the k2, p2 rib to the last 3 sts and work the last 3 in whatever they turn out to be (knit or purl).

Wow! I totally missed that! heh... I'm glad I asked. So, then the sleeves are also in garter stitch following the ribbing. Problem solved! Thanks Sarah =) Thistlechick 07:46, 17 May 2008 (PDT)
