[edit] Updated Version
This is a 12-stitch repeat, knitted with US3/3.25mm needles, with lace or fingering weight yarn. This sample was knit in KnitPicks Shadow laceweight, in the colorway Midnight.
Cast on 3 stitches; increase at the beginning of each row until you have 12 stitches with which to begin. I chose to increase by knitting in the front and back of the first stitch in each row. In the following pattern, all rows begin with an increase, and due to the location of these increases, I cast on a stitch using the backwards-loop method in order to make 1 for each; the notation CO 1 will be used for these increases. For the increases within the body of the row, I used a yarnover (YO). For increases at the end of the row, I knit into the front and the back of the stitch. The knitter may choose to vary the increases, but unless the yarnover is used in the body of the row, the lace will not come out correctly.
Row 1: CO 1, k2tog, k3, YO, k1, YO, k3, k2tog.
Row 2 and all even rows: CO 1, then purl every stitch to the end.
Row 3: CO 1, k1, k2tog, k2, YO, k3, YO, k2, k2tog, k2.
Row 5: CO 1, k2, k2tog, k1, YO, k5, YO, k1, k2tog, k3.
Row 7: CO 1, k3, k2tog, YO, k7, YO, k2tog, k4.
Row 9: CO 1, k5, YO, k3, k2tog, k4, YO, k to end.
Row 11: CO 1, k2tog, k3, YO, k1, YO, k3, (k2tog) twice, k3, YO, k1, YO, k3, k2tog, k to end.
Row 13: CO 1, k1, k2tog, k2, YO, k3, YO, k2, (k2tog) twice, k2, YO, k3, YO, k2, k2tog, k to end.
Row 15: CO 1, K2, k2tog, k1, YO, k5, YO, k1, k2tog; * k2tog, k1, YO, k5, YO, k1, k2tog, and repeat from *, k to end.
