Pins No. 11; 15 stitches to a pattern. Ten shades of four-threaded German wool, 8 rows of each shade, the shades to be reversed from the centre the same as No. 2. Cast on 113 stitches.

First row:—Knit 2 together, knit 3, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 1, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 3, knit 2 together.

Second row:—Seamed.

Third row:—Knit 2 together, knit 3, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 1, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 3, knit 2 together.

Fourth row:—Seamed.

Fifth row:—Knit 2 together, knit 2, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 3, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 2, knit 2 together.

Sixth row:—Seamed.

Seventh row:—Knit 2 together, knit 1, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 5, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 1, knit 2 together.

Eighth row:—Seamed.

Ninth row:—Knit 2 together, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 7, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 2 together.

Tenth row:—Seamed.

Eleventh row:—Knit 1, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 3, knit 2 together, knit 4, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 1.

Twelfth row:—Seamed.

Thirteenth row:—Knit 1, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 3, knit 2 together, knit 2 together at the back, knit 3, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 1.

Fourteenth row:—Seamed.

Fifteenth row:—Same as the 13th row.

Sixteenth row:—Seamed.

Seventeenth row:—Same as the 13th.

Eighteenth row:—Seamed.

Nineteenth row:—Knit 2, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 2, knit 2 together, knit 2 together at the back, knit 2, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 2.

Twentieth row:—Seamed.

Twenty-first row:—Knit 3, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 2 together at the back, knit 1, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 3.

Twenty-second row:—Seamed.

Twenty-third row:—Knit 4, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 2 together, knit 2 together at the back, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 4.

Twenty-fourth row:—Seamed.

Pattern is worked over 15 stitches and 28 rows.

Choose number of patterns, yarn, and needles to suit your project.

Sample shows 2 patterns (30 stitches across) worked 1.5 times (42 rows), with 2 rows of garter stitch around.

Worked on 4 mm needles, using Rowan Wool Cotton, to give 14sts/10cm after blocking.

Row 1: K2tog, K3, yo, K2tog, yo, K1, yo, K2tog, yo, K3, K2tog

Row 2 and all even rows: Purl
