Pretty Spider-Net

Pins No. 12; 35 stitches to a pattern. Fourteen shades of four-threaded scarlet German wool, 6 rows of each shade. Cast on 113 stitches.

First row:—Knit 2, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 1, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 2 together, knit 9 (make 1, and knit 2 together 6 times), knit 5; repeat.

Second row:—Seam 4 (seam 2 together and make 1 six times), seam 9 (seam 2 together and make 1 twice), seam 3, make 1, seam 2 together, seam 1, and repeat.

Third row:—Knit 2 together, make 1, knit 2 together, knit 1, knit 2 together (make 1 and knit 2 together twice), knit 9 (make 1 and knit 2 together six times), knit 3, and repeat.

Fourth row:—Seam 2 (seam 2 together and make 1 six times), seam 9 (seam 2 together and make 1 twice), seam 1, make 1, seam 3, make 1, seam 2, and repeat.

Fifth row:—Knit 3, make 1, slip 1, knit 2 together, pass the slipped stitch over, make 1, knit 3 (make 1 and knit 2 together twice), knit 9 (make 1 and knit 2 together six times), knit 1, repeat.

Sixth row:—Seam 3 (make 1 and seam 2 together six times), seam 6, seam 2 together, make 1, seam 1, make 1, seam 2 together, make 1, seam 2 together, seam 7, repeat.

Seventh row:—Knit 6, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 3, make 1, knit 2 together, knit 4 (knit 2 together and make 1 six times), knit 4, repeat.

Eighth row:—Seam 5 (make 1 and seam 2 together six times), seam 2, seam 2 together, make 1, seam 2 together, seam 1, seam 2 together, make 1, seam 2 together, make 1, seam 2 together, seam 5, repeat.

Ninth row:—Knit 4, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 2 together, make 1, knit 1, make 1, knit 3, make 1, knit 3 (knit 2 together and make 1 six times), knit 6, repeat.

Tenth row:—Seam 7 (make 1 and seam 2 together six times), seam 3, make 1, slip 1, seam 2 together, pass the slipped stitch over, make 1, seam 3, make 1, seam 2 together, make 1, seam 2 together, seam 3, repeat.

Pins Old UK size 12, US size 2, metric 2.75mm

Fourteen shades of fingering weight (Australian 4 ply) scarlet wool, work 6 rows of each shade. Of course a

single shade will look just as pretty!

Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 113 stitches and knit 8 rows. (Each pattern repeat is 35 stitches with 4 edge

stitches at each side).

Each row begins and ends with k4. This will not be mentioned in the pattern again.

1st row: *K2, k2tog, yo, k1, (yo, k2tog) twice, k2, yo, k2tog, k5, (yo, k2tog) 6 times, knit 5; repeat from *.

2nd row: *P4, (p2tog, yo) 6 times, p9, (p2tog, yo) twice, p3, yo, p2tog, p1; repeat from *.

3rd row: *K2tog, yo, k2tog, k1, k2tog (yo, K2tog) twice, k9, (yo, k2tog) 6 times, k3; repeat from *.

4th row: *P2, (p2tog, yo) 6 times, p9, (p2tog, yo) twice, p1, yo, p3, yo, p2; repeat from *.

5th row: *K3, yo, slip 1, k2tog, psso, yo, k3 (yo, k2tog) twice, k9, (yo, k2tog) 6 times, k1; repeat from *.
